Dorking Life Saving Club

Meeting every Tuesday at 7:30pm at the 'new' Dorking Leisure Centre

What we offer
Each week, the club runs classes in resuscitation, water safety, land- and water-based self-preservation and rescue skills.

There are usually between four and six different groups working simultaneously. They cover all the skills and knowledge that is needed to satisfy the examination requirements for the various RLSS lifesaving qualifications. YOU DON'T NEED TO BE A STRONG SWIMMER TO BE A GOOD LIFESAVER.

From around 7:30pm to 8:00pm the resuscitation and safety sessions are run in the Centre creche, and they are followed by an hour in the pool finishing at 9:00pm.

People usually come along and try one or two sessions, before joining for the year. There is a small annual fee due after a couple of try-out sessions and then a small fee for each time that we attend. When the member (with the guidance of their teacher) feels confident and able to go for the exam then we make all the necessary arrangements. In this way, people who want to build up their swimming strength before taking the exam can do so, while others who put in the effort and want to take the exam in lightning quick time can do so too.

Our members range from around 10 to 80 years of age and there roughly equal numbers of men and women. Most of us are just in it for fun, some are professional lifeguards, others are boy scouts or girl guides and others their leaders. We can provide all the training and experience needed for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, and do so for a number of local schools.
